- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 1/2 tsp vanilla
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 8 oz cream cheese, cold
- 2 cups powdered sugar
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a saucepan, melt the unsalted butter over medium heat until golden brown; let it cool slightly.
- In one bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. In another bowl, mix granulated sugar, brown sugar, eggs, vanilla, buttermilk, and browned butter until smooth.
- Combine the dry ingredients with the wet mixture until just combined.
- Divide the batter between the prepared pans and bake for about 36 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- For the caramel sauce: Melt remaining unsalted butter with brown sugar in a saucepan; slowly add heavy cream while stirring until thickened. Set aside to cool.
- For frosting: Beat cold cream cheese and gradually add powdered sugar until well combined.
- Once cooled, layer the cakes with caramel sauce and frosting in between; frost the top and sides of the cake.
