  • 3 large eggs, room temperature
  • 315 grams plain flour or all purpose flour

  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 240 ml full fat or whole milk
  • 2 tablespoons full fat sour cream
  • 1 teaspoon strawberry extract
  • Pink food gel or food coloring
  • 1 tablespoon cocoa powder, sifted
  • 1 tablespoon milk
  • 230 grams butter, room temperature for frosting
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract or vanilla bean paste for frosting
  • 625 grams icing sugar or powdered sugar for frosting
  • 34 tablespoons full fat or whole milk, room temperature for frosting
  • Assorted candy and chocolate for decoration

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F) and prepare three 6-inch round baking pans.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together butter, sugar, and vanilla until smooth. Add eggs one at a time.
  3. Mix in flour, baking powder, salt, milk, and sour cream until just combined.
  4. Divide batter into three bowls; color one with strawberry extract and pink food gel, another with cocoa powder and milk.
  5. Pour the batters into prepared pans and bake for about 30 minutes or until a skewer comes out clean. Cool completely.
  6. For the frosting, beat room temperature butter until smooth; gradually add icing sugar and milk until creamy.
  7. Level the cooled cakes if necessary. Assemble by layering cake with frosting in between each layer and cover the top and sides with remaining buttercream.
  8. Decorate with assorted candies for an extra fun touch.
