Ingredients
- 230 grams unsalted butter, room temperature
- 200 grams caster sugar or granulated sugar
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 3 large eggs, room temperature
- 315 grams plain flour or all purpose flour
- 3 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 240 ml full fat or whole milk
- 2 tablespoons full fat sour cream
- 1 teaspoon strawberry extract
- Pink food gel or food coloring
- 1 tablespoon cocoa powder, sifted
- 1 tablespoon milk
- 230 grams butter, room temperature for frosting
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract or vanilla bean paste for frosting
- 625 grams icing sugar or powdered sugar for frosting
- 3–4 tablespoons full fat or whole milk, room temperature for frosting
- Assorted candy and chocolate for decoration
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F) and prepare three 6-inch round baking pans.
- In a large bowl, cream together butter, sugar, and vanilla until smooth. Add eggs one at a time.
- Mix in flour, baking powder, salt, milk, and sour cream until just combined.
- Divide batter into three bowls; color one with strawberry extract and pink food gel, another with cocoa powder and milk.
- Pour the batters into prepared pans and bake for about 30 minutes or until a skewer comes out clean. Cool completely.
- For the frosting, beat room temperature butter until smooth; gradually add icing sugar and milk until creamy.
- Level the cooled cakes if necessary. Assemble by layering cake with frosting in between each layer and cover the top and sides with remaining buttercream.
- Decorate with assorted candies for an extra fun touch.
